I think looks are such beautiful birds and I love their call. I grew up in Minnesota where the loon is the state bird. I remember evenings just sitting by the lake listening to their mournful call. Thanks for sharing.
Wow I am so glad to finally see some loons on WordPress. your photos are really sharp too. I don’t have a great zoom lens but I have tried many times.
Cheers
Thanks. While I do have an okay zoom for my Canon, it’s not great (I’ve been drooling over a couple but the budget is tight). However, I was able to get fairly close to this pair in my kayak which made my life easier.
I put mine in a dry bag in the cockpit with me (which is leashed to the kayak). I’ll take it in and out as the conditions dictate (I don’t kayak far with it around my neck).

I also love hearing them…. there’s something that marks the end of a good day when you can hear the loons calling in the dusk.
Beautiful birds.
Thank you.
I think I seen these in Minnesota does that sound about right?
Yes, the common loon is Minnesota’s state bird.
Yes I thought it was – I remember seeing it when I was in the boundary waters canoe area
The common loon is found throughout Canada and northern United States. This pair is at Marshall Lake PRA in Alberta.

Ah yes, the good old kayak. I have had opportunities like this too at my cottage but I am always weary about taking my camera in my kayak.

great shot Suzi, I love watching the Loons, but they are fast, and don’t seem to like getting their picture taken!
