Merlin (Falco columbarius)

Merlin (Falco columbarius)

I was out for a walk the other morning when an unusual caw behind me attracted my attention. High in the tree above me was this bird, which further research makes me think it is a Merlin (Falco columbarius).

Male Mallard Duck

Last weekend, a couple dozen ducks had congregated along the edge of the Bow River at the end of the Waterfall Valley Trail in Bowmont Park. I was lucky to get several shots before they took off down the river in response to my two-year old’s squeal of delight of seeing them.

While on a hike this weekend with my husband and son, I unexpectedly came across this log with fungi growing on it. I’m not knowledgeable about fungi in the least so if someone has more details, I’d love to hear from you.
